Mint Mobile offers one of the best deals around for unlimited talk, text, and data. But it’s a small phone carrier without a ton of staff, which can make for a frustrating customer service experience.

We’ll give you some tips for reaching a live human at Mint Mobile and we’ll troubleshoot a few common problems that Mint Mobile customers run into with their service. Hopefully you’ll be back to chatting, scrolling, and gaming on your phone in no time!

Mint Mobile customer service FAQ

How do I contact Mint Mobile?

Unlike some of the more traditional carriers (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) Mint Mobile is a digital-only operation. You can’t just walk into your local Mint store and ask the person behind the counter for help.

So, what is the best way to reach Mint? Here are the options.

  • Call Mint Mobile at 1-800-683-7392
  • Click the chat icon in the lower right corner of the screen on Mint Mobile’s website
  • Use the chat feature in the Mint Mobile app
  • Tag @MintMobileCares on Twitter

How do I reach a live agent at Mint?

The easiest ways to reach an actual Mint customer service agent are through the phone or the online chat feature. However, in both cases, you’ll have to go through some steps with an automated system first. These steps will go much faster if you have all of the relevant information about your problem ready before you call (like knowing the phone number and account holder information).

Troubleshooting Mint Mobile network issues

If you’re having trouble connecting to Mint’s 3G, 4G LTE, or 5G network, then there are a few things you can try yourself before reaching out to customer service.

Turn your phone off and then on

This might sound obvious and rather simple, but it can really work. Turning your phone off and then back on will reset the connection between your phone and the network. This can often help if you’re having trouble receiving messages, using mobile data, or making calls.

On a related note: the issue could be with your phone, rather than Mint Mobile’s service. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to a better device?

Check your SIM card

Make sure that your SIM card is properly set in your device. Try turning off your phone, taking the SIM card out, and then turning on your device without the card. Then, put the SIM card back in. This can reset your phone’s connection to the network.

If you’re using an eSIM card, then you shouldn’t need to worry about resetting your card.

Try upgrading to a better plan

Sometimes, the problem is not Mint Mobile’s network, but your actual plan. If your data speeds have plummeted, it may be because you hit your high-speed data cap. Try upgrading to an unlimited talk, text, or data plan. You can learn more in our full Mint Mobile review.

Want to try another cheap carrier?
bullet

Mint Mobile isn’t the only cheap MVNO carrier on the market. If you’re ready to switch, check out other low-cost phone companies like Boost Mobile, Cricket, or Xfinity Mobile.

How to activate Mint Mobile service

If you’ve just signed up for Mint Mobile and are ready to activate service on your device, there are two ways to do it.

  • Go to MintMobile.com/activate in your browser and enter the 11-digit code that’s on the back of your Mint SIM card. Then follow the instructions on the website to finish activation.
  • Or, you can download the Mint Mobile app. Open the app and enter the 11-digit code on the back of your Mint SIM card. Follow the instructions in the app to finish activation.

Mint Mobile customer service performance

Let’s be real: most cell phone companies have sub-par customer service. The industry as a whole needs to step up its game. But that doesn’t mean that we can forgive individual carriers like Mint Mobile for their failures.

Just how does Mint do compared to other phone companies? It’s hard to say for sure, since the company is too small to be on the American Customer Satisfaction Index.1 But third-party review sites, like TrustPilot, have given the company decent rankings.2

Anecdotal reviews from individual customers are not so rosy. There are many complaints about issues with billing, refunds, and promotional offers. So read the fine print before you sign up! That way you know exactly what you're agreeing to cost-wise.

There are also plenty of customer complaints about compatibility. If you plan to bring your own phone, make sure you use Mint’s own compatibility tool to see if it will work on the network before signing up.
